2019 West Metro NAACP Achievement List

Below are the achievements and activities the West Metro NAACP Branch engaged in during 2019. We are encouraged with the work we have done, and strive to do even more in 2020! 

• Installation of Branch Officers by Judge Barbara Caldwell.

• President Bates was one of the speakers at the 4th Annual M.L. King, Jr. Commemorative Service
at the First Baptist Church in Dallas, Georgia. The theme of her message was, “There Is Work to Do!”.

• Held Monthly General Body Meeting.

• Held Monthly Executive Board Meeting. 

• Civil Rights Activist and former State Representative Tyrone Brooks lead leadership training for the Executive Board. We were reminded that the work of human rights is a marathon and not a sprint. We must be vigilant!

• West Metro attended Phase One Downtown Development Initiative to Provide Input.

• Held Monthly General Body Meeting.

• Held Monthly Executive Board Meeting. 

• West Metro NAACP attended the National NAACP and Air BnB Initiative Launch.

• Held Monthly General Body Meeting.

• West Metro NAACP hosted a Cook Book Recipe Fundraiser.

• Our Executive Board underwent Training to build a solid foundation for West Metro NAACP’s future.

• West Metro participated in a Branch Team Building Event – Play on Marietta Square.

• West Metro held its annual Juneteenth Membership Drive!

• West Metro NAACP attended the Pro Georgia Voter Registration Training and Initiative.

• West Metro NAACP assisted over 100+ high school aged youth in becoming registered voters!

Collaborations

West Metro NAACP has collaborated with: 

1. New Horizons to ensure development in the Northside is equitable.

2. The Paulding County School System to ensure there is an active plan for the eradication of racial bullying.

3. Divine 9 Fraternities and Sororities in Douglas and Paulding Counties.

4. Douglas County Law Enforcement.

5. Paulding County Law Enforcement.

Other Successes

1. The Executive Board attended two NAACP State Conferences.

2. The current Executive Board brought the Branch into compliance with the State and National ordinances.

3. Our "Get a Life" Campaign resulted in 100% of the Executive Board becoming Lifetime Subscribers to the NAACP.

4. The Executive Board has committed to sponsor 25 Youth Memberships.
